Track and Field Post-Season Recap

On April 30th 2026, the Track and Field Moore League Finals were held at Poly, with a few field events taking place at Wilson. The first Varsity event was the 4×100. Poly took the gold on the girls side, with Faith Magee , Aniyah Brooks, A’nylah Turner, and Brooklyn Lee running a time of 46.43. The boys soon followed, running 41.26 with Steven Hunter , Malachi Dawson, Jaylen Mcneil, and Jaydin Lawrence. Next, Sienna Young took third place in the 1600m with a personal best of 5:20.29. Kadence Bain won the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 14.37. Matching her win was Lynnox Newton who ran 14.34 in the 110 meter hurdles, with Armon Bly right behind him with a time of 15.05. In the girls 400, Aliyah Stokes took 5th with 55.99, along with Noah Smith on the boys side running 47.01 for second place. In the 100m, Aniyah Brooks ran 12.07 taking first, and Malachi Dawson did the same running 10.82. Laila Kirk took first place in the 800m with a time of 2:10.29, outkicking Wilson’s Shirayah Lewis-Williams by .16th of a second. Darieon Shufford took 3rd in the boys 800m with a time of 1:57.30. Kadence Bain also ran the 300 meter hurdles, and took second, running 42.27. As for the boys 300m, Lynnox took first place again with a 38.34. Aniyah Brooks ran her third event, the 200m, in a time of 24.69. Malachi Dawson took another win, and ran 21.38 in the 200m. Sienna Young placed 5th in her second event of the day, the 3200m, with a time of 11:55.88. Archie Byrom ran 9:52.18, placing second for the boys 3200. Overall, Poly and Wilson took gold in 28 out of 32 events. 

Athletes from this meet were able to qualify for the California Interscholastic Federation by placing first in their event, which advanced them to CIF automatically. Placing second or third while also hitting a qualifying time or mark in an event is another way to advance. 45 Track and Field athletes were able to qualify for the CIF Prelims due to their performances at finals. Poly held the greatest number out of all these athletes, with 22 of our athletes being qualifiers. Of our 22 qualifiers for Prelims, those who made it to Finals were the Girls’ 4×100 relay, placing first first with a 46.65. The boys 4×100 placed second in 41.13. In the girls 100 hurdles Kadence Bain won first in 14.18, and in the 110 boys hurdles, Lynnox Newton took second in 13.98, and Armon Bly took 3rd in 14.51. In the girls 400 Aliyah Stokes took 7th place in 56,02, and Noah Smith took second for the boys in 47.55, with Jaylen McNiel in 8th place with a time of 48,90. In the 100m Aniyah Brooks placed second with an 11.82. Laila Kirk took second place in the 800m with a time of 2:10.20, and Darieon Shufford placed 7th on the boys side in a time of 1:53.84. In the 300 hurdles, 4 athletes qualified. Kadence Bain placed first for the girls with a 42.61, and for the boys Lynnox Newton ran 38.68 for 5th, Armon Bly in 8th with a 38.93, and Kingston Pierre in 9th with a 39.11. For the girls 200m, Aniyah Brooks placed 4th with a 24.42. Both girls and boys 400m relays qualified, with the girls running a 3:49.47 for first, and the boys running a 3:15.94 for second. As for the field events, Zayla Ridley placed 6th in the girls Long Jump with 16-10. For the boys Long Jump Jaydin Lawrence placed 4th with a 22-8.75, and Khalen Shepherd placed 5th with 22-8. Finally, in the boys Shot Put, Jephte Tchami threw a 54-7 for 6th place. Athletes were able to advance to finals based on a strict 9-competitor format. 

In the CIF-SS Finals, those who advanced were Kadence Bain who won the 100m hurdles with a 13.68. The girls 4×100 also took first in 46.36. Those who took second included Kadence Bain, running a 42.89 in the 300m hurdles, Zayla Ridley in the Long Jump with a 17-10, and the girls 4×400 with a 3:51.54. Laila Kirk took 5th place in the 800m with a time of 2:11.13, and finally for the girls, Aliyah Strokes ran a 56.91 in the 400m for 7th place. On the boys side, the 4x400m took gold with a 3:14.09. Lynnox Newton ran a 13.74 in the 110m hurdles for second place. For third place, Noah Smith ran the 400m in 47.26, and the 4×100 relay ran a 41.40. Armon Bly took 4th place in the 110m hurdles with 14.33. In 5th place, Jephte Tchami threw a 54-11-½ in the shot put, and a 154-3 in the discus. Khalen Shepherd jumped a 22-4 in the long jump. For 6th, Armon Bly ran 39.42 in the 300m hurdles, and Jaydin Lawrence jumped 21-4 in the long jump. For 7th place, Noah Smith ran the 200m in 21.65, and Jaylen McNiel ran the 400m in 48.91. Lastly, in 8th place, Lynnox Newton ran the 300m hurdles in a time of 40.50. To qualify for CIF Masters, athletes had to place top 9 across all divisions, not just D1 which is where Poly is placed.
