  • People’s Champ William Frankenfeld

CIF-Southern Sectional Championships took place on November 17th. Our very own CIC senior, Will Frankenfeld took first place and third in CIF State Championships on November 24th, just seconds away from first. Will also took another victory at the Foot Locker Cross Country West Regionals, placing second.

“I’m not gonna lie, I was a little disappointed that I finished third in state and I finished first in the Southern Section, which is the fastest section. So I should’ve got first in state, so of course I’m a little disappointed,” said Frankenfeld on his thoughts about the race.

“I do feel a certain pressures to do well, since I have done so well in the past,” said Frankenfeld on the expectations he feels from others.

“I plan to continue running in college, maybe for UCLA or Cal State Fullerton,” said Frankenfeld on his future aspirations on running.

Will Frankenfeld came 14th overall in the nation, third in State, and California’s top runner.

  • Winning Streak Continues

    Winning Streak Continues

Friday September, 28th was Poly’s football away game against Cabrillo. The game was held at Cabrillo. The score was 48-0, and yet another winning streak against Cabrillo.

Timothy Gomez said that the game was good but could have overall been better, “I think the team could have done better.” said Gomez “The team worked really well together, though I still think that we need to work on some things.”

Already within the first quarter at about 7:23 pm a pass was made resulting in our first touchdown of the game. The second touchdown was also a pass made into the goal, and by the end of the first quarter our score was 20-0. Starting off in the second quarter at around 7:52 pm yet another passing, resulting in a touchdown. A rushing touchdown was made at about 8:01 pm, and by the end of the second quarter the score was 41-0.

As the game came onto it’s halftime show Guadalupe Bonilla from Colorguard said as they performed “It was okay,” and especially fun “when the Cabrillo marching unit/drill team” also did their performance. Bonilla stated that they “started talking to each other” and even took a photo together.

Returning back into the zone and the third quarter of the game it was intense but yet no one from either team seemed to make any advances. In the final quarter the last touchdown of the game was made at approximately 9:01 pm and the game ending with the score of 48-0. In previous games, such as our Millikan game we won 46-15 and in Wilson 42-6. So far in the season it seems Poly’s football team has been racking up wins and will continue to do so, if they keep playing as good as they have so far or even better.

  • Behind the Crime Scenes!

    Behind the Crime Scenes!

When I first thought of this article,  it was because I was     curious to see what our Poly CSO’s do with their lives outside of school. Have you ever been curious as to what your teachers do in their spare time? Surely they have something they like to do aside from all that grading

The gate worker and security guard Mike Castillo has been working for poly for the past two years. He is someone students often walk past, but seldom ever greet.

Castillo, when he isn’t keeping poly’s campus beautiful, coaches youth basketball and youth football. “I was a jock in high school, I guess in that way, I still am.” Castillo said, smiling in remembrance of his past self.

Nowadays, Castillo’s joy and passion comes not from sports alone, but his family. “My kids are my everything. I’m very soon to be a Grandpa, so I have that to look forward to.” he remarked with a small chuckle.

Jeff Eyanson (the CSO pictured) has been a part of the Jackrabbit family for 28 years. During 8 of which he has been working toward receiving his doctorate. He was able to find the time to study while he worked. “I was able to work in between the cracks of time. I was able to do a lot of research while I’m at the main gate.”

All that hard work will soon pay off for Eyanson, “I can see the end of the tunnel.” he said with a wide grin. As of now, Eyanson already teaches youth baseball and colleges courses twice a week in San Diego. He plans to remain working at poly as well as teaching online courses, “Is there anywhere else to go? I went here, stood here for 28 years. My son will go to high school here. Once a Jackrabbit, always a Jackrabbit.”

Looking back to his years as a student here on campus, Eyanson can only remember being one thing: Busy. “I was in all kinds of clubs, student council, I was assistant coach for volleyball my senior year, and I was coach for 13 years after. We won CIF in 2000.”
